SCARS
It's almost four years the last time I chose a man,
Friends to lovers, I thought it was my last.
I could still recall how my smile would show,
The glow I felt inside whenever he messages me all day long.
But, what I realized after these years,
I only felt included but not the real thing.
The feeling of safety in someone else's presence,
The feeling of openness, like a bird spreading its own wings.
And everything ended like any other story,
The ending wasn't happy, it was tragic.
I know everything happens for a reason,
But, the reason was something I didn't expect that gave me a life lesson.
Every life lesson comes with a wound,
And if you didn't note it, it will haunt and burn you.
But, if you learn to heal from it and grow,
These wounds will leave you scars, remnants of the past just like the stars.
I suppose these scars have been the source of my fears,
To always doubt if a person was even genuine and real.
I do thank my doubts for protecting me all these years,
But over time, this protection is keeping me away from the person destined for me.
